Phototherapy combined with immunotherapy
In recent years, our laboratory has focused on understanding how phototherapy can induce biological immune responses.
We have discovered that optical nanomaterials often exhibit additional enzyme-like properties, such as enhancing the ability to reduce cancer cells' resistance to free radical damage and promoting the oxidation of cell membranes. Through the ferroptosis pathway, the multiple effects of light stimulation trigger a cascade of immune responses, encouraging the surrounding macrophages and T cells to produce elevated levels of immune expression.
This, in turn, inhibits long-term tumor growth and significantly improves survival rates. Our research aims to explore how these unique properties of phototherapy can be harnessed to enhance cancer treatment and boost immune system responses.
